Private European collection; sale, Dorotheum, Vienna, 14 October 2008, lot 73;, Private collection, Lower Austria, Pieter de Putter numbered among the few artists of the seventeenth century who almost exclusively dealt with the subject of fish. He was influential in this genre for his followers, such as his nephew, Abraham van Beyeren. His works stand out for their cool, limited palette, carefully observed light, and realistically rendered surface textures. The present painting is registered in the database of the RKD, The Hague, under no. 196884
